The Association represents the views of German teachers.
They have a representative on the NCCA and other curriculum-related committees.
The GDI has a committee which serves a two-year term. The present term began in November 2016 and will end in November 2018.

The GDI is member of the IDV (Internationaler Deutschlehrerverband).
The IDV represents approximately 250,000 German teachers in 86 countries.
The Association also maintains close connections with the Goethe Institut, the Department of Education & Skills, the State Examinations Commission and the Austrian and German Embassy.
